West Patent Elementary School has been recognized
Sharing good news is always an easy task, so I relish in relaying to you that West Patent Elementary School has been recognized as the New York State School of Character for 2017! In the upper right hand corner, please note the seal that denotes our designation. As such we have been informed that our application has been forwarded to Character.org in Washington, D.C., for additional screening and consideration to be named a National School of Character.
In addition, our school has been asked to perform our character education song, “Omode,” at the Champions of Character Banquet in Troy, NY on April 26th. Our drummers will perform live while a video of the students singing the verses of the song are projected on a screen for the audience. Later during the banquet, the school will formally be recognized for its exemplary work in character education.
Our school’s application was “commended for providing its students a strong character education foundation. Their service learning component offers a wide variety of activities for students and staff in which to immerse themselves.” Other comments included praise for the “wide representation of school staff and community members among the character education team. “
So please join me in congratulating our students and staff for their achievement in attaining recognition as a New York State School of Character!
