Superintendent of Schools

Dear Bedford Central School District Families and Community:

The school year is approaching its conclusion and we have made significant progress on each of our BIG TEN District Goals. These goals include:

  1. Strategic Planning.
  2. Budget development.
  3. Comprehensive communications plan.
  4. Resolve negotiations.
  5. Curriculum Review and program initiatives.
  6. Improve BCSD Policies.
  7. Create a special education action plan.
  8. New Board of Education meeting cycle.
  9. Fill leadership positions.
  10. Space and Enrollment Community Advisory Committee work.

For the first time, every school shares goals and objectives under three broad areas - Communication, Special Education and Inclusion, and Curriculum and Program.

BCSD's District-wide Strategic Planning Committee has developed refreshed District Statements of Values/Beliefs, Mission, and Vision. We have identified BIG Goals that will help us continually move toward the realization of that Vision, and to identify critical issues that must be addressed through near-term objectives.

It is the time of year we are deeply engaged in developing and finalizing the school district's budget for the coming year. We have developed a new webpage with comprehensive information about our 2017-18 proposed budget.

The Board of Education recognizes that community involvement is a key ingredient to the attainment of the District’s mission and annual goals. Our Community Advisory Committees have been deeply engaged in their work. The Space and Enrollment Community Advisory Committee and the Budget Community Advisory Committee have each presented their final reports and recommendations to the Board of Education. The Student Achievement Community Advisory Committee continues its work to analyze and provide recommendations regarding various district educational programs. Other important committees include The Audit Committee and the Safety Committee.

As springtime kicks into full gear, we all enjoy this exciting time of year. Along with more pleasant weather, there are so many student events, performances, activities, and awards celebrations that provide our student an opportunity to be highlighted and showcased. Please watch our District calendar on our website for these enjoyable events.

To keep informed, check out our District Facebook PageTwitter Feed, and our school and parent association web pages/newsletters. Also, subscribe to our events calendar and new athletics calendar. At this time all Board subcommittees are active and engaged in important district business. You may find Board meeting materials and subcommittee minutes in Board Docs.

Please accept our appreciation for your support for BCSD.

In Service,

Chris Manno
